Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas is interested in
policies that impact workforce development. We are concerned about
issues which currently lack sufficient legislation or policy to
be effective. We will act as an advocate for our customers and our
community.
Current issues include a need to:
- Extend local control and empowerment over state and federal
funds currently restricted by state and federal policies, maximizing
the opportunity to focus resources on local economic issues.
- Offer incentives to encourage partnerships between public-funded
programs and private employers to create jobs and enhance the
workforce.
- Upgrade training programs for people currently working below
their capacity, including technical skills, basic education, English-as-a-Second-Language
and critical thinking skills.
- Reorganize workforce legislation to focus on the employer as
the primary customer, recognizing the integration between workforce
development, economic development and community development.
- Establish employer-responsive public education criteria based
on workforce issues and the preparedness of students entering
the workforce.
- Establish child care and transportation as workforce infrastructures
that play a significant role in the success of workers. Modify
current spending and policy trends to respond to these community
needs.
