Child Care
Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas administers Child Care
Assistance (CCA) funding to help parents pay for child care while
they work, go to school, or participate in job training to become
self-sufficient. Those eligible for child care assistance include:
- Parents who are receiving Temporary Assistance to Needy Families
(TANF).
- Parents who have recently stopped receiving TANF benefits because
of earned income.
- Parents in job training programs such as Choices or those offered
through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA).
- Parents with low incomes who need help paying for child care
so they can continue to work or attend training.
- Teen parents from low-income families who need child care to
attend school.
- Parents with low incomes who have children with disabilities.
With CCA, parents choose which child care center their child will
attend. A CCA family services specialist assists parents in making
child care decisions based on the services offered, hours, fees
and ages of children accepted by licensed Dallas County child care
providers that offer CCA-funded care.
Parents are also given the option of selecting a relative to care
for their children or a day care provider that is not contracted
to provide CCA-funded care.
In addition to the work that is done through CCA-Dallas, Workforce
also strives to maximize the quality and availability of child care
through local initiatives with many entities in the community. These
initiatives, which match local funds to federal dollars, are underwriting
the following types of services:
- After school care for over 20,000 children in the area
- Subsidies for ongoing training and education for child care
providers
- In-school programs for teen parents and their children
- Quality initiatives for infants and toddlers in low income,
high need areas
