Year-Round Youth Program
The Dallas County Local Workforce Board has replaced
its Summer Youth Program that it had sponsored for many years with
a year-round youth program.
The year-round program offers services for in-school teens, aged
14 to 21, that is designed to enhance participants' academic performance
that leads to valuable workplace skills.
WIA advocates serving youth within a comprehensive service system
that reflects a continuum of services to meet the differing needs
of youth as they age throughout the program. The program gives youths
an opportunity to participate in a broader program that includes
tutoring, limited summer employment opportunities, support services,
mentoring, and follow-up services that can include alternative education,
paid or unpaid work experience, occupational skills training, leadership
development, and counseling.
WIA does not authorize a stand-alone summer employment opportunity
program, as was authorized in the past.
Along with earning a real life work experience and salaries, some
students are given the opportunity to strengthen their reading and
math skills. Participants who are determined to be below grade level
in school are given free tutoring during their working hours but
they are still paid for the time.
To learn more about the program or to see if you are eligible to
participate, call one of our centers
for more information.
