WIA
The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) focus is to assist
individuals in obtaining employment as soon as possible and to empower
them by providing needed services to enhance employment opportunities.
WIA services are designed to aid individuals who
are:
- Economically disadvantaged,
- Unemployed due to downsizing, or
- Lack competitive job skills
WIA provides a tiered system to provide services under the "Work
first" approach for adult and dislocated workers.
Participants meeting all eligibility requirements, fulfilling all
required activities and demonstrating a justifiable need may be
considered for skills enhancement in a demand occupation provided
by vendors on the approved state vendor's list.
The federally funded program, administered by the Texas Workforce
Center, manages programs for adults, youth, older individuals and
dislocated workers.
