Community Impact: Volunteer Days with The Salvation Army
Our organization is dedicated to serving the community, and with this commitment in mind, we have actively participated in community service events throughout recent years. On March 24, we had the privilege to attend the Salvation’s Army largest facility and serve over 158 families. There’s no greater feeling than giving back to our community and making a difference in the lives of others.
Google STAR Fiber-Optics Project: Transforming Careers & Expanding Opportunities
On March 14 the Google STAR fiber optic class started their certification training. Since January 2023, Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas (WFSDallas) has been a proud service provider and recipient of funding for the Google STAR Fiber-Optics Project, a phased, multi-level training program designed to upskill underrepresented job seekers—including women, BIPOC individuals, and veterans—in the fiber-optics trade. The initiative, focused on communities where Google is expanding its data center operations, has provided participants with hands-on training, industry certifications, and direct employment connections.

Kelly Barber: How ChildCareGroup Changed a Mother’s Life
Kelly Barber moved to Dallas from Michigan as a single mother, facing significant hardships. Struggling to pay bills and provide childcare for her 4-year-old Kingston, she found herself homeless. Everything changed when she discovered ChildCareGroup and the vital resources offered by WFSDallas. Through their support, she received a one year grant that fully covered her child’s childcare expenses, providing the stability she needed.
The support allowed Kelly to not only stay afloat but to thrive in her career with the Child Care Group. She is now a Professional Development System Supervisor and is dedicated to help others access the same resources that empowered her to rebuild her life.
Reflecting on the impact WFSDallas and ChildCareGroup had in her life she states, “They’ve given me the greatest gift and that is the opportunity to create a better life for Kingston and others through my profession.”
