At Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas, we believe that everyone deserves a chance to shine. That’s why we proudly participate in the Summer Earn and Learn (SEAL) program — a groundbreaking initiative that offers students with disabilities, ages 14 to 22, real-world work experience, skill-building opportunities, and the chance to earn their own paycheck.
This program is about opening doors, breaking down barriers, and proving that with the right support, determination, and opportunity, anything is possible.

Turning Challenges into Triumphs: Kendall’s Story

Kendall’s love for the outdoors runs deep. But his dream of working in parks and wildlife came with a major obstacle — severe allergies to grass and dander. For many, this might have meant giving up on their passion, but for Kendall this was only fuel to overcome a challenge.

Thanks to the SEAL program, Kendall secured a position with Texas Parks and Wildlife. Supported by understanding supervisors, he learned to navigate his allergies with protective gear and strategic planning. He didn’t just get through the summer — he thrived.
From educating visitors about local wildlife to assisting with park maintenance and administrative duties, Kendall’s resilience and adaptability impressed everyone. More than that, he proved to himself that no challenge is too big when you have the right mindset and support.

By the end of the program, Kendall’s confidence had soared. He gained not only valuable workplace skills but also a renewed passion for environmental education — ready to inspire others in ways that play to his strengths.

Building Independence and Confidence: Blake’s Journey at CVS

Blake Vanston-Pass’s SEAL experience at CVS Duncanville tells another powerful story of growth and independence. Given the same responsibilities as regular employees, Blake quickly found his rhythm — learning to manage his time, complete tasks independently, and arrive every day ready to work.
What made the experience even more meaningful was the chance to earn his own money and open a checking account — milestones that fueled his pride and encouraged him to learn money management skills.

From requiring a job coach in his first year to working confidently on his own in subsequent summers, Blake’s progress illustrates the invaluable role SEAL plays in helping students discover their strengths and successfully transition into the workforce.

More Than a Job — A Life-Changing Experience

The Summer Earn and Learn program is more than a summer job initiative. It’s a life-changing platform that empowers students with disabilities to break through barriers, develop essential skills, and build confidence for a future filled with possibilities.

For employers, SEAL brings enthusiastic, dedicated team members who enrich their workplaces and communities. For students like Kendall and Blake, it provides the opportunity to prove their abilities, follow their passions, and take the first bold steps toward independence.

With programs like SEAL, we’re not just building a workforce — we’re building futures.
